Nancy Lopez-Swaney and her guide dog Brady enjoy the fragrant garden.

Ethel L. Dupar's Fragrant Garden is open for summer tours!

It’s summertime and that means our fragrant garden is in full bloom here at the Lighthouse. Aromatic plants such as gardenias, lilies, tarragon, and lavender provide a sensory, tactile experience designed for visually impaired individuals.

“Folks who are visually impaired in a society geared towards sighted people have extra stress built into their lives,” says Master Gardner Helen Weber. “So it’s particularly useful to have a garden right here at the Lighthouse where they can come out at break time and de-stress.”

Our fragrant garden is the only garden in Seattle dedicated year round to fragrant plants. To read more about the garden, click here
