Government Relations

Government Relations Specialist Mark Landreneau presented Senator Maria Cantwell with the JWOD Champion Award, which honors legislators who advocate for the AbilityOne program and employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Our government relations work in 2007 focused on continuing to develop and maintain good relationships with our Washington Congressional delegation. We do this through attendance at local congressional events, visits to leaders in DC at least twice a year, specialized tours of the Lighthouse, and hosting officials at our programs such as the Deaf-Blind Retreat.

This year, our government relations work resulted in an additional two years of funding through the Washington State Department of Transportation for safe travel training on using the bus and transit systems, a new bus shelter on Martin Luther King Boulevard near the Lighthouse, and a request to submit a federal funding proposal to the Senate Transportation Committee in 2008. Thanks to all our legislators who made this happen.
