ASL Interpreting in the Lighthouse Machine Shop

Announcing the release of a new ASL DVD with Deaf Machining Instructor, Terry Dockter. Follow Terry on a detailed tour of the machine shop at the Seattle Lighthouse for the Blind, all in ASL. Learn classifiers, ASL, machine shop vocabulary and communication tips when interpreting with Deaf-Blind people. This DVD is intended for interpreters, both Deaf and those who hear. 

This DVD is a two-disk set running approximately 2.5 hours. It includes: ASL, English voiceover and Closed Captioning.

Part 1/Disk 1:

This DVD includes an introduction to the Lighthouse by Mark Landreneau and an introduction to the machine shop by Terry Dockter. Follow Terry through the shop and see demonstrations of each of the machines in operation. Also Terry will expound on the use of nouns versus verbs in the machine shop environment.

Part 2/Disk 2:

This DVD includes an in-depth ASL explanation of the operation and safety features of 13 different shop machines. It also includes an extensive section on precision measuring tools and techniques all in ASL.

Bio: Terry Dockter is the Deaf son of Deaf parents and a highly talented interpreter, mentor, and trainer. He is also a skilled machinist and mechanic, and has for many years provided consultation and training to interpreters and Deaf-Blind machinists at The Lighthouse for the Blind.
