Title: Assistant Store
Manager

Hours: Full Time, M-F, includes some
Saturday work
Summary:
Assists Manager
in the daily operations of a Base Supply store to meet the ongoing supply needs
of a military base. Assists in
ensuring that customer requirements including attractive product selection and
quality are met. Provides daily
direction to store personnel to ensure the efficient operations of the
store. Participates with manager
to plan, organize, develop and monitor the daily activities of the Base Supply
Center. Provides training, skill
development and feedback to employees.
Supports the Lighthouse mission.
Performs job duties in compliance with the Lighthouse, military, federal
and state guidelines and the JWOD Program.
Responsibilities:
á
Acts
as supervisor in the absence of the store Manager at a base supply store that
sells products to military personnel and others as appropriate.
á
Keeps
management informed regarding store performance, staffing/operational issues,
customer concerns, etc.
á
Maintain
excellent customer relations to enhance both sales and LHB image on base.
á
Address
customers special needs, requirements or complaints in a timely manner.
á
Monitors
store to ensure it remains safe, clean, organized and that merchandise is
effectively located. Follows
merchandising standards when setting store shelves. Follows stocking standards of keeping same product located
together wherever possible.
á
Maintains
awareness of products, their intended use and knowledge of the
manufacturer. Actively promotes
JWOD items with customers.
á
Gathers
knowledge of customer requirements and buying trends to provide information to
purchasing regarding changes in demand to help establish and maintain proper on
hand quantities.
á
Prepares
merchandise displays in support of marketing activities (as applicable).
á
Assists
with the direction of daily activities performed by store staff.
á
May
assist in evaluating individual employee performance, giving feedback,
preparing written performance appraisals based on requirements.
á
Ensures
compliance of employees with established all company procedures and
practices. Assures all
requirements are met and that records are stored properly.
á
May
open store as scheduled, lock and secure store at the end of the shift. Assist with maintenance and upkeep of
the store facility. Ensures the
facility is a well-organized, safe and customer-service oriented supply
operation.
á
Performs
cycle counts and quality audits and uses the results to improve processes,
identify training issues or streamline efficiencies.
á
Assures
that procedures are consistently followed to maintain accessibility for blind
and low-vision employees.
Introduces ideas to improve accessibility for employees.
á
Demonstrates
commitment to LHB mission.
á
Must
assure staff and BSC operate within the contractual agreement between LHB and
military installment.
á
Attends
meetings, conferences, in-service training and other functions as required.
á
Performs
other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
á
AA degree preferred.
á
Oneto three years in supervisory role in retail,
wholesale, or supply operation - preferably in military or government
environment required.
á
Proven ability to deal pleasantly and courteously
with management, customers and co-workers - by telephone, written
correspondence and in person.
á
Desire to work in a high ÒtrustÓ environment with the
ability to gain and hold others trust.
á
General office experience or training with knowledge
of office equipment and machines, including MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook.
á
Ability to motivate, coach and train staff for
continuous improvement.
á
Proven experience in sales, purchasing, warehouse
operations or merchandising preferred.
á
Working knowledge of laws and regulations governing
military installations required.
á
Knowledge of JWOD Act, LHB, state and federal
regulations required.
á
Proven ability to work as an effective team member
required.
á
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
required.
á
Must be able to lift 25-35lbs regularly throughout
the shift. Must be able to lift
50LBs periodically (case of copy paper).
Must be able to stand, stoop, and lift most of the shift. Temperatures often vary from too hot to
too cold.
á
