Summary:
Assists
with various aspects of customer service, inventory, stocking, merchandising
and store maintenance. Assists
customers in purchasing products by answering questions, processing purchase
transactions and referring them to store management for special purchase
items. Participates in keeping the
store organized, clean and operating efficiently. As a team member, supports the Lighthouse for the BlindÕs
(LHB) mission to create opportunities for people who are blind. Performs job in a manner which is
in compliance with the Ability1 Program, LHB, federal and military guidelines
applicable at the Base Supply Center (BSC).
Responsibilities:
á
Greets
and assists customers to find merchandise. May help gather customer orders.
á
May
assist with sales transactions by scanning items into the POS system or packing
and double checking quantities scanned and counted by cashier.
á
Inventories
and restocks merchandise displays as required. Assists store manager or other personnel in the receiving,
opening and unpacking of cartons or crates of merchandise as needed. May assist in checking invoices or
computerized lists of items ordered against items received. Stamps, attaches or changes price tags
on merchandise utilizing price lists.
á
Sets
up advertising signs and displays, merchandise on shelves, counters or tables to
attract customers and promote sales.
Cleans display cases, shelves and aisles.
á
Assists
other cashiers when store is busy or with large orders. Packs customer purchases in bags or
cartons and assists with loading purchased goods into customer vehicle as
required.
á
Answers
phone inquires, takes messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel.
á
Assists
with clerical duties and routine office functions as required.
á
Performs
other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
á High
School Diploma.
á Must be
able to use solid math skills and work with numbers (UPC, NSN, Product Codes)
accurately.
á General
knowledge of office equipment and machines including POS systems, personal
computer, fax machine and scanning hardware.
á Proven
ability to deal pleasantly and courteously with management, customers and
co-workers, by telephone, written correspondence and in person.
á Excellent
interpersonal and communicative skills.
á Ability
to work effectively as a team member.
á Ability
to stand, bend and lift heavy/large boxes or containers (up to 50lbs) using
safe techniques and equipment to reduce risk of injury.
á Prior
work experience with a military supply operation or retail store preferred.
