Title: Receiving Clerk
Reports to: Base Supply Center Manager
Location: NAWS China Lake, California
Hours: Thirty-five hours a week
The Lighthouse for the Blind, Inc., a large non profit organization located in Seattle, Washington, is opening a base supply sore at NAWS China Lake.
Summary:
Responsible for performing warehouse and inventory duties in a Base Supply Center (BSC). Receives, inspects, labels and prepares all merchandise for sale. Supports customer service, merchandising, store maintenance and cashiering functions as needed. Maintains a well-organized and efficient workplace. Ensures that products are brought to the floor in a timely and safe manner. As a team member, supports the employment of people who are blind. Assists others in performing their jobs as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Receives merchandise, verifies and signs for delivery. Records receipt on daily log and scans barcode to match with appropriate purchase order. Pull purchase order hard copy to check for additional information.
- Inspects product against Purchase Order description and verifies quantity ordered matches count and pack slip printout. Accepts receipt by saving record in POS system. Places received goods in designated areas.
- Reports any damaged merchandise, mis-shipped items or other problems by stating issue on packing slip and faxing “problem sheet” to the Lighthouse for the Blind (LHB) for action.
- Maintains hazardous material records (MSDS) in compliance with military, federal, state and LHB requirements.
- Generates and applies bar coding labels if product is not scan-able. Keeps a log and reports barcode problems so Purchasing personnel can remedy the issue prior to future receipts.
- Maintains and files daily receiving logs with appropriate source documents. Records must be maintained and accessible in compliance with LHB Records Retention Policy.
- Operates material moving equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks and is responsible for unloading freight carriers and placing merchandise into proper storage areas.
- Fulfills customer orders (as required) and processes sale through POS system. Receives payment and provides customer with invoice or receipt.
- Inventories, stores, prices and restocks merchandise to comply with BSC procedures.
- This position is trained to fill in for all store positions. Can assist with special orders, sales, customer service and the training of new personnel.
- Packs customer purchases in bags or cartons and assists with loading into customer vehicle as required. Or, if delivery is required, then delivers order to customers as scheduled. Follows any guidelines, procedures or restrictions based on individual store policy.
- Performs routine vehicle inspections on company owed vehicles (truck, forklift). May schedule maintenance or repair work so deliveries are not interrupted. Prepares monthly reports that track vehicle condition, mileage and expenses.
- Promotes LHB mission by following any policies or guidelines established to create a safe environment and enable accessibility to blind employees.
- Assists with clerical duties and routine office functions as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma.
- Three-five (3-5) years warehouse or inventory experience.
- Computer experience with ability to use POS system and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of inventory basics with solid math skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
- Current valid driver’s license required. Must maintain good driving record and have no major violations and remain insurable with LHB. This is a requirement to maintain employment.
- Must be dependable, begin scheduled shift promptly and have reliable transportation to work.
- Ability to deal pleasantly and courteously with management, customers and co-workers by telephone, written correspondence and in person.
- Proven ability to work as an effective member of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills.
- Prior work experience within a retail store or with the military a plus.
