Job Announcement
Title: Sales/Marketing Associate
Location: Fort Lewis, Washington
Dept.: Base Supply Centers
Reports to: BSC Sales Manager
Hours: Full Time
Summary:
Responsible for identification and contact of key military/civilian persons that should be utilizing the Base Supply Center. Provide input and advice on how to develop an effective marketing plan for both the office product customer. Goal is to increase LHB “presence” on base by establishing and maintaining relationships with the correct personnel. It is the intent that this position establishes new accounts, therefore increasing sales volume.
Responsibilities:
- Develops a simplified organization/structure chart illustrating base mission, key tenets and other potential customers (contractors). Identifies customer potential and ranks opportunities. Keeps current counts of base population to develop sales forecasts and budgets.
- Present and sell BSC products and services to current and potential customers.
- Prepare action plans and schedules to identify specific targets and project the number of contacts to be made.
- Follow up on leads and referrals from information gathered through BSC personnel.
- Prepare presentations, proposals and sales orders/contracts.
- Develop and maintain sales materials, product and mission (JWOD Program) knowledge.
- Identify and resolve customer conflicts or concerns.
- Provides feedback to management and employees engaged in sales work and customer service offering a “military perspective” geared towards improving LHB sales techniques and marketing strategies to identify and win new customer accounts and increase current customer spending.
- Establishes positive customer relationships and knowledge of customers buying trends to increase LHB’s market share related to the purchase of office products. Represents LHB by meeting with customer. Records customer contact detail and results to plan for next steps in sales cycle.
- Promotes both walk-in customers and web ordering.
- Analyze excess, aged inventory to seek customer. If installation has no use, research possible alternative customers and contact these prospects trying to reduce or minimize loss to LHB.
- Regularly evaluates sales versus customer visits to ascertain effectiveness and reports results.
- May provide transportation and some visual accommodations to blind employee(s) when meeting with customers, giving sales presentations, GPC training or while performing other business development activities.
Stays informed of current developments, missions, deployments and other activities which could impact sales volume and staffing requirements whether short or long term.
- Obtains general knowledge of BSC store and HazMat operations (if applicable), receiving, sales, backorders, POS database requirements and reporting functions. Able to provide backup manpower.
- May work inside the store offering “inside sales support” during personnel shortages.
- May provide training to inside sales associates.
- Prepares monthly reports, logs and metrics in a timely manner (per scheduled due dates).
- Demonstrates commitment to LHB mission.
- Maintain operations and procedures that support accessibility for blind employment wherever possible.
- Operate within the guidance and requirements stated in the MOA signed between LHB and military installation.
- May travel to attend sales meeting, training or other required events.
Requirements:
- AA degree.
- 3-5 years of sales and marketing experience.
- 15-20 years military experience, with expert knowledge of McChord’s mission and customer base.
- Past rank or title held is equivalent to mid or upper management level.
- Knowledge of advertising and sales promotion techniques.
- Must maintain ability to enter assigned military installations.
- Basic reading, writing and math skills required.
- Ability to prioritize, meet commitments and provide timely reports to customers, LHB Administration and Management.
- Ability to persuade and influence others. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to create, compose and edit written materials. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques.
- Visibility requires maintaining a professional appearance and providing a positive company image to the public, the customers and other agencies.
- Proven ability to use sound judgment.
- General knowledge of office equipment and machines. Ability to use POS systems to gather customer data. Ability to use Excel and Word software.
- Proven ability to deal pleasantly and courteously with management, customers and co-workers, by telephone, written correspondence and in person required.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member required.
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and occasional overnight travel.
