Title: Buyer
Dept.: Operations
Reports to: General Manager of Operations
Hours: Full-time-Day Shift
Summary:
Assists in the development and maintenance of the Master Production Schedule, coordinating with Manufacturing to assure timely scheduling of work orders in order to meet demand for product availability.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews customer orders and provides feedback to customer service regarding availability to ensure high level of customer service.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with suppliers. Requests and reviews quotations. Purchases raw materials. Evaluates supplier’s price, quality, and delivery on an ongoing basis. Maintains vendor files. Researches to find new potential suppliers. Sets up, coordinates, and tracks jobs with outside processing suppliers.
- Supports LFB quality program by working with suppliers to ensure material is of high quality and documentation exists to support requirements. In the case of problems, works with suppliers and all internal parties to resolve issues. Responsible for ownership, adherence to, and maintenance of ISO D1-9000 procedures.
- Assures system integrity by regularly auditing transactions. Balances inventory levels to ensure ability to meet customer demand while limiting amount of capital tied up in inventory.
- Orchestrates work in process inventory counts and production reporting. Involved in internal audits including cycle counting and valuing work in process.
- Develops new suppliers, materials or products for introduction. Introduces new ideas and suggestions to improve and maintain systems. Makes effort to remain aware of new technologies, materials, etc. that help to make LFB more competitive and efficient. Monitors costs and work to improve profits.
- Develops scenarios for phasing out obsolete materials when products are changed or discontinued.
- Maintains team philosophy in all areas of planning, coordination and problem solving. Must work closely and well with individuals in warehouse, production, engineering, quality, accounting, customer service and other areas.
Requirements:
- Four (4) year degree or CPIM certification required.
- Thorough understanding of Manufacturing functions and process flow; minimum five (5) years experience in production planning required.
- Working knowledge of computerized systems with ability to use the computer as a tool; proven ability to develop accurate spreadsheets required.
- Must have manufacturing resource planning experience and be able to conceptualize the MRP netting process, bill of materials structure as well as regular input information required.
- Excellent interpersonal and numerical skills required.
- Mature judgment, analytical and organizational skills required.
- Ability to work well with all organizational levels as well as outside contacts.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision.
