Job Announcement
Title: Senior Cost Accountant
Location: Seattle, Washington
Dept.: Finance & Accounting
Reports to: Controller / Assistant Controller
Hours: Full Time M/F
Summary:
Responsible for managing accounting functions and staff to ensure the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of financial information and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain effective inventory, costing and accounting processes to ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls and to ensure accuracy and integrity over costing and financial reporting.
- Maintain or establish detailed standard costs, direct and indirect labor standards and related data in ERP system. Perform analyses and report all types of variances.
- Perform periodic review and adjustment of standard costs as necessary (at least annually). Drive process for product, labor and overhead update of standards.
- Prepare and review system updates for new products and changes.
- Responsible for monthly reporting related to inventory, variances, gross margin, by product, COGS and related.
- Monitor, track and reconcile inventory, S&O, reserves and costing related accounts on a monthly basis, research and follow-up applicable issues to resolve.
- Prepare month-end close journal entries, ensuring all inventory transactions are properly recorded.
- Support Operations in preparation of annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
- Provide system expertise and solution support to Operations including product costing, work center setup, inventory control and purchasing.
- Coordinate external auditor cycle counts and year-end physical inventory.
- Other projects as assigned.
Requirements:
- Four (4) year degree in Accounting or related business required, or equivalent experience. CPA preferred.
- Cost accounting experience required. Minimum 5 years cost preferred.
- Experience in managing inventory or cost system or database required. JD Edwards cost accounting experience preferred, or other mid-sized or larger ERP system.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical approach to problem solving, as well as a proactive, positive attitude required.
- Demonstrated successful ability to work effectively in collaborative team required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to explain financial issues and results in clear and concise manner.
- Strong Excel and other Microsoft Office products skills. Experience with other report-writer or query software preferred. (E.g. Monarch, Crystal Reporting, Spreadsheet Server, query tools or business intelligence.)
- Able to evaluate GAAP and internal controls including identifying and resolving internal control weaknesses. Able to apply GAAP accounting standards and requirements to processes and procedures.
