Title: Toolmaker-Fixture Builder
Department: Machine Shop
Reports To: Machine Shop Manage
Hours: Full-time day-shift, M-F
Summary:
Designs and manufactures work holding fixtures. Works with the Production Supervisor and CNC Programmer to create, develop and improve work holding methods for blind operation.
Responsibilities:
- Experience working as a Machinist with experience in design and fabrication of CNC work holding fixtures, assembly fixtures and shop tooling for aerospace machine shop.
- Operates manual Bridgeport mill and CNC mills, Knowledge of commercial tooling components, and manufacturing methods, working knowledge of one or more cad/cam systems: AutoCAD, Solidworks, Virtual Gibbs or MasterCam.
- Independently analyzes blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, programs, work orders and/or templates to determine proper work holding methods, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
- Independently selects, materials and components to manufacture work holding fixtures and assembly tools.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes and specialized cutting machines.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth of cut or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine programs.
- Verifies conformance of finished fixtures and tooling to produce work pieces per customers specifications.
- Confers with supervisors/leads, engineers, inspectors, programmers, or others to resolve manufacturing or production problems.
- Serves as a backup to the CNC Programmer.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of CNC machinist and programming experience or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of one or more cad/cam systems: AutoCAD, Solidworks, Virtual Gibbs or MasterCam.
- Strong ability to understand complex instructions, procedures and policies, and give clear technical assistance and feedback to co-workers.
- Thorough knowledge of machine shop practices.
- Competent in geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to monitor, analyze and edit CNC programming.
- Advanced ability to use precision measuring tools.
- Independent understanding of work-orders, blueprints and drawings.
