Message from the President
Each February, we honor the accomplishments and talent of Lighthouse employees at our annual employee awards ceremony. It’s always a pleasure for me to recognize the many outstanding accomplishments of the Lighthouse team. It is a true honor to be a part of a team with such an exceptional commitment to achieving the Seattle Lighthouse mission.
Lighthouse employees represent a diverse range of skills, and the Lighthouse offers an array of opportunities in many different capacities. Employment opportunities for people with visual disabilities include jobs in production, machining, customer service, order entry, computer instruction, web programming, information technology, sales and marketing, and administration.
Each person is a critical part of the equation at the Lighthouse. Each success helps to expand the reach of the Lighthouse mission. Thanks to our manufacturing and production teams’ hard work, we have been able to expand our employment opportunities even further. This month alone, we are adding thirteen new jobs for people who are blind and Deaf-Blind.
Our philosophy maintains that each employee receive the supports he or she needs in order to achieve success. From undergoing on-the-job training to learning how to use the latest assistive technology, Lighthouse employees are continuously learning new and creative ways to achieve their goals.
Meanwhile, our training team proactively assesses what programs and supports best serve the community. The assessment process includes going out into the community and talking to individuals about what training options are a priority for them. Each participant has maximum input on their training preferences as instructors explore options with them.
At the Lighthouse people who are blind, Deaf-Blind, blind with other disabilities, Deaf, hearing, and sighted all work together to achieve two primary goals: to maintain our status as a thriving social enterprise and to create and enhance opportunities for the independence of people with visual disabilities. Thanks to the hard work of our team, the Seattle Lighthouse continues to flourish.
I would like to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of all the employees who make the Lighthouse what it is today.
I would also like to recognize the community members who partner with the Lighthouse to help support our efforts and make employment, training, and support a reality at the Lighthouse.
Thanks to all of you whose tireless dedication helps to achieve our mission every day.
