Seattle Lighthouse Donates Machine Equipment to Museum of Flight: Turret Press to be Used in Refurbishing Historic Aircraft

For over thirty-five years, the Seattle Lighthouse has manufactured airplane parts for the Boeing Company. Now, the Lighthouse is making a contribution to the preservation of historic aircraft by donating a turret press to the Museum of Flight.

The donation was initiated by machinist Bob Peterson, a long-time volunteer at the Museum of Flight. Bob and his son, who also volunteers at the museum, will set up and demonstrate the press for the general public. The press holds eighteen different tools and is used in manufacturing a range of airplane parts.

“It’s a historic artifact,” says Bob. “They will use it to make parts for the older airplanes on display.” The press is ideal for machining small parts for aircraft.

The independent, non-profit Museum of Flight is one of the largest air and space museums in the world, attracting more than 400,000 visitors annually. The Museum's collection includes more than 150 historically significant airplanes and spacecraft, as well as the Red Barn -- the original manufacturing facility of The Boeing Company. The Seattle Lighthouse is proud to partner with the Museum of Flight in preserving the rich history of flight for generations to come.
