Help Create a New Computer Training Program for Blind Adults
You can help to create a new computer training program for blind adults with your donation and, through December 31st, your donation will be matched.
In June 2005, the state closed its Adult Computer Education program for blind people --- leaving a significant gap in training for individuals with visual disabilities. To meet the critical need for computer education in the blind community, we are launching a major fundraising campaign to support a new computer training program for blind, working-age adults.
We need to raise $30,000 from individual donors to successfully commence our adult computer training program. To ensure that we meet our $30,000 goal, generous community donors have come forward and agreed to match gifts received up to December 31st, 2005 in support of computer training.
Access to assistive technology and computer skills training is severely limited for many people who are blind. With 72% of legally blind people unemployed and one-third living in poverty, costly adaptive and computer technology is often unaffordable.
While they have the least access to it, blind individuals stand the most to gain from computer technology. Computer skills are essential to competing in today’s job market and in advancing in the workforce. Your gift will ensure that people with visual disabilities will be able to access crucial computer skills training.
To make your matched donation today, please visit here. Gifts received up to December 31st, 2005 will be matched. Please act now to have your contribution matched and count double towards meeting our funding goal.
